Your Guide to Hitching a Fifth Wheel RV

Hitching a fifth wheel RV can seem daunting at first, but with the right equipment and knowledge, it can be a smooth process. Follow these steps to learn how to safely hitch your fifth wheel RV.

Step 1: Align Your Vehicle and RV

Start by aligning your vehicle and RV so that they are in a straight line. This will make it easier to connect the hitch and ensure a secure connection.

Step 2: Lower the Tailgate and Extend the King Pin

Lower the tailgate of your truck and extend the king pin on the RV. This will make it easier to connect the hitch to the RV.

Step 3: Back Up Your Vehicle

Slowly back up your vehicle towards the RV, making sure to keep an eye on the alignment of the hitch and king pin. Have a spotter guide you if needed.

Step 4: Connect the Hitch and King Pin

Once the hitch and king pin are aligned, lower the hitch onto the king pin and secure it in place. Double-check that the hitch is locked and secure before moving on.

Step 5: Raise the Landing Gear

Raise the landing gear on the RV to take the weight off the hitch. This will make it easier to drive away once everything is connected.

Step 6: Test the Connection

Before hitting the road, do a final check of the hitch connection to ensure it is secure. Test the brakes and lights to make sure everything is working properly.
